SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah) – When it comes to looking for a new job, it’s good to know about resources in our community that can get you to the next step. Abby Warr from Utah non-profit, People Helping People, joined us this morning to share an important employment resource.
Abby tells us that People Helping People is an Employment Program dedicated to reducing the number of children living in poverty by helping low-income women, primarily single moms, reach an adequate income through successful employment. For more than three decades, the organization has been serving women across the state. The program is completely free for participants and entirely privately funded.
The focus is always on long-term, individualized support through career coaching, job search training, and a strong peer network so women can secure stable jobs that lead to long-term financial independence.
Utah has one of the fastest-growing economies in the country, but women aren’t always benefiting equally from that growth, especially when it comes to wages and leadership opportunities. In Utah, women still earn significantly less than men on average, which places the state near the bottom nationally when it comes to gender wage equity. Things like childcare access, career interruptions, societal norms, or lack of professional networks can make it difficult for women, especially single mothers, to move into stable, higher-paying careers. People Helping People helps bridge that gap.
There are several meaningful ways to support. Donations make a significant impact. PHP is 100% privately funded, financial contributions directly support the career coaching, job search training, and ongoing support that help women move into stable employment and financial independence. Volunteering is another powerful way to get involved. Community members can serve as mentors, help create networking opportunities, or support workshops that build confidence and professional skills.
