Who We Are
People Helping People (PHP) is an Employment Program dedicated to helping low-income women and single moms reach their full potential in the workplace. PHP helps families break the cycle of poverty by teaching low-income women how to earn a living wage.
With the support of over 100 volunteer business professionals each year, our Employment Program offers a unique, long term, one-on-one approach that helps low-income women develop the tools, knowledge and self-confidence to compete for better jobs, seek raises and promotions and eventually earn an adequate income.
We believe that the only permanent route
out of poverty is an adequate income.
PHP is dedicated to reducing the number of children living in poverty by teaching low-income women, primarily single moms, how to earn a living wage.
Successful employment makes a huge difference in the lives of the women and children we serve in our program. Women who become successfully employed contribute in many ways. They:
become tax paying citizens, support the economy by purchasing goods and services, become homeowners, and send their children to college.
At PHP we believe that when moms do better, kids do better; when kids do better, communities do better; and when communities do better, we all do better.
The most valuable thing I gained from People Helping People was to see that the program really encourages women. It gives them tools so they don’t have to rely on public assistance. They realize they can get out of the system and stand on their own two feet.

What Makes People Helping People Unique?
Most employment agencies help their clients apply for jobs, write resumes and practice interviewing. However, the women we serve need more. Many are accustomed to talking about what they can’t do and how desperate their situations are. Therefore, when they get a job, they believe their employer will care about their challenges and accommodate them. This approach sets them up for failure.
To give our clients a better chance for employment success we teach everything from the Employer’s Perspective. Clients learn that employers hire them to solve problems not be one. We remind them that companies hire and promote employees who:
1. Show up every day, on time, ready to work.
2. Have a good attitude and a willingness to do what is asked of them.
3. Are willing and able to learn.
4. Contribute to the bottom line.
We help clients see themselves as primary earners rather than supplemental earners.
Working with business professionals, provides an opportunity for clients to meet and learn from a variety of people. This interaction helps them expand their options and discover opportunities that might otherwise not be available to them.
We provide long-term employment support. Employment agencies usually stop working with clients once they get a job, however, our clients understand that getting a job is just the first step toward earning an adequate income and that we are here to support them long-term.
